CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Shopping local is a great way to support your community. The dollars that you spend stay in the community, and local taxes are able to be collected, which are just a few of the benefits.

The Casper Chamber of Commerce reminds you to shop local this holiday season for those reasons. They also add that you’re more likely to receive better customer service because these are your neighbors, and you have a better chance of finding something more unique.

“The local businesses that you shop at they tend to support the community more, the non-profit organizations more. They’re more engaged in the community because they actually live here,” Casper Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board of Directors Michael Howe. “They’re CEOs, they’re owners. They actually live in the community, become a part of the community, so they tend to invest more in the community.”

The Casper Chamber of Commerce’s job is to promote their members and ensure their success. Howe said that Casper should be excited to see local businesses succeed because they’re important to the community.

“They’re such a vibrant part of our community, whether’s its supporting non-profits or being engaged on civic boards, or various other things like civic organizations. They’re just such a vital part of our community, so the more we can support the locally owned businesses the better off our community as a whole is.”

Small Business Saturday is one initiative to encourage people to shop locally. It is happening on Saturday, November 28th.
