Casper Supercuts offers free haircuts at homeless shelter
People at Wyoming Rescue Mission are able to receive haircuts every month from local professionals volunteering their time.
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - 2020 has taught many lessons this year, and one of them is the importance of being able to regularly receive a haircut. It’s not something that people usually think twice about spending money on to look their best.
The average haircut price for men is $28, and for women, it’s $44. For some people, that is a lot of money to spend.
“I mean I take a haircut for granted,” said Wyoming Rescue Mission Marketing and Events Manager Jenny Stedillie. “You don’t think of it as something that is kind of a commodity, but it is for some people.”
Stedillie admitted that no one would want her to give them a haircut.
This is why a local Supercuts comes to the Wyoming Rescue Mission every month to offer free haircuts to anyone there. They view it as an opportunity for them to give back to the community.
“I think it’s wonderful that even something as small as a haircut can motivate someone and help their self esteem a whole lot,” said Fertig Group General Manager Regina Patterson.
The Fertig Group owns the local Supercuts in Casper.
Patterson also said that the reason she and her crew come back is each month is the people. “It’s fun because they recognize us, we recognize them,” said Patterson. “Even though we don’t necessarily know details of either one’s life, it’s fun to recognize them and see them and joke and smile.”
