Mission guests get new “do’s” before Thanksgiving
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - SuperCuts stylists will bring their scissors, spray bottles, combs and capes to Wyoming Rescue Mission at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, just in time to give those who signed up a new ‘do just before Thanksgiving.
Every month for the past two years, stylists with SuperCuts, owned by the Fertig Group, have donated their time and brought their supplies to the Mission, where they set up in one of the Discipleship Recovery Program classrooms to cut hair and trim beards. Shampoos and chemical work are not offered, given the classroom setting. SuperCuts was forced to take a hiatus earlier this year, when the Coronavirus shut down the industry, but they’re back at it, just with some new procedures in place.
“A new cape must be used for every person,” Regina Patterson, regional manager of the Fertig Group, said, “and we only have 30, so we can only do 30 guest’s hair. We clean and disinfect in between every guest. Guests aren’t allowed in the room until we call them in, and stylists are spaced 6′ apart. And, everyone has to wear a mask. New combs have always been required for each client.”
Patterson said the new health and safety procedures given COVID take only an extra minute or two longer than pre-COVID procedures.
A sheet lies at the Mission’s front desk for guests to sign up. At the time of this press release, there are 22 names on the list.
“We want to give them a boost,” Patterson said, “and we want to give back to our community. Many have told me that they have a job interview coming up and they didn’t know what they were going to do about their hair.”
Patterson herself loves doing this for Wyoming’s homeless.
“This is a really big deal to me,” she said. “I’d love it if the Mission could add on a salon, so we could treat guests to the full salon experience. But, we still have fun. We even have a hot towel warmer we bring, to give them a special ‘salon treatment’ treat.”
Next month, SuperCuts will return just before Christmas.
