Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies hosts virtual food drives
Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies offers a way to drive donations from anywhere.
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - One in six people from Wyoming and one in four Wyoming children is food insecure. Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies does their best to ensure everyone eats.
With less people donating food during a pandemic, Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies has had to get creative. They started by going online.
“A virtual food drive is one of the ways that anyone can step up and help us feed those who are at greatest need right now,” said Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies Communications and Development Manager Victoria Ziton.
Donations are not made with virtual food. A virtual food drive allows people from anywhere to raise money for Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies.
“What I like most about having this opportunity is it gives us a chance to reach out to individuals who are engaged and care about Wyoming, but they may not live here,” said Ziton. “We can tap those philanthropic hearts no matter where they beat.”
Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies takes that money to buy food for those who are food insecure, and they work with food pantries all over the state.
They’re able to take a dollar donation and turn that into four meals for someone that needs it.
Ziton said, “Through Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies, we’re able to leverage all of our relationships nationwide to get the best price for food, the right kind of food and get it to places that need it the most.”
