Prep Athlete of the Week: Graedyn Buell
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - East Football had to face two teams on Saturday in the 4A Football State Championship: the Thunder Basin Bolts and the wind.
With wind gusts up to 74 miles per hour in some parts of the Capital City, you would think that the T-Birds would have had little chance with their vaunted passing offense essentially taken out of the game.
Enter Prep Athlete of the Week Graedyn Buell.
The senior quarterback, who is usually a gunslinger, instead rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns.
“[Thunder Basin] did a good job stopping the run early [in the game]. But we knew that if we just kept pounding them and working our way down the field, they were gonna get tired and were gonna get a few chunk plays,” Buell said.
At one point down 15-7, Buell served as the East offense’s catalyst, which scored 22 unanswered points, to deliver the first football state title to the East Side of Cheyenne since 2013.
“We worked our butt off all season,” Buell said. “We would go practice by ourselves so we could get ready for a good season and all that hard work paid off. It means so much and I’m happy so for our coaching staff.”
Buell said he plans to play football in college and then wants to get into coaching when his playing days come to an end.
Congratulations to State Champion and now Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week Graedyn Buell.
