Veterans honored at annual American Legion Post 6 Veterans Day celebration in a virtual matter
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Veterans in Cheyenne were honored at American Legion Post 6 for their annual Veterans Day celebration. Things were different this year due to the pandemic, as the vast majority of people were not able to attend in person. The celebration was streamed on social media for those at home to watch.
“We take care of our veterans every day, we recognize them every day," Post 6 Commander, William Barnes said. "Not just on veterans day or memorial day, and it’s something near and dear to my heart.”
The Veterans appeared to enjoy the love they receive from the community, as warm welcome backs were not something they have always experienced.
“I came back from Vietnam and it was an ugly time back in the day, so for someone to come out and thank me for my service puts me on cloud nine,” Barnes said.
Retired Master Sergeant, Ricky Ramon was awarded with the Meritorious Service Medal.
“It was my honor, and I was happy to do it," Ramon said. "I know everybody here, they all had their own reasons, but I know at the end they were all happy, happy to have been able to serve.”
The Veterans in attendance believe it is important to recognize and say “Thank you” to veterans not only on Veterans Day, but every day.
