Prep Athlete of the Week: Alexis Stucky
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - This week’s Prep Athlete of the Week is trying to help deliver the first volleyball state championship to Laramie High School since 1994.
That drought is long enough that there are girls currently playing that had moms on that last title squad.
This week’s honor goes to Junior Outside Hitter Alexis Stucky.
If you go to one of the future Florida Gator’s games it is easy to identify her as the most dominate player on the floor.
It sometimes appears that all you have to do is set the ball for her and the point is yours.
“Well, huge credit to my setter...most of the time my sister gives me a pretty good ball," Stucky said smiling. "But you have to be ready to hit any ball because any time your out of system and the pass is bad, the set always goes to the outside. So I think [the key is] using your brain instead of just [hitting the ball] hard.”
The Lady Plainsmen are a very family focused team, featuring nine sets of sisters in the program.
The head coach also happens to be Alexis' mom.
“She has absolutely no off switch," Laramie Head Coach Jill Stucky said. "She goes hard all the time for every ball and she makes coming to practice really fun for me.”
Laramie’s quest for the state championship takes place on Saturday at the Casper Events Center.
The team is three wins away from achieving that goal.
