RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

Fremont County School District 25 are adding a requirement at their school sponsored games and events. It comes as a suggestion from the Wyoming High School Activities Association.

Superintendent of Fremont County School District 25, Dr. Joanne Andre-Flanagan stated, “We received some updated guidance from WHSAA recommending that we ask everybody who attends our events inside to mask up. We had been having that discussion already internally a little bit as we move into our winter sports. All of our events will be inside at that point.”

The school district has concerns about having large events that the community will attend indoors, unless precautions are taken. School officials say that if anyone has a medical exemption to masking, to contact Central Office. Accommodations will be considered and may be made on a case by case basis. Since the requirement goes above what is recommended by the health department, the Smart Start plan will not need to be approved by the state. It was however, approved by the school board, and will now be added to the Smart Start plan for the district.

“We’ll be amending that guidance in our Smart Start Plan to require masking at events. If the cases get under control and the spread is mitigated in the community, it may be something that then we feel comfortable addressing and adjusting, but for now we will be requiring that folks who come into our events be masked the whole time they’re there,” noted Dr. Flanagan.

A free online streaming of the school’s events will be available for anyone not willing or able to wear a face covering.
