Prep Athlete of the Week: Kira Brownell
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If your coach can call on you to swim in any event at a meet, you must have some skills.
That is the dynamic Prep Athlete of the Week Kira Brownell has with her head coach Josh Bott.
Kira showed out for Central at Saturday’s South East Girl’s Swimming & Diving Conference Championships.
Brownell placed first in four events; two were individual and two were team races. The events were: 200 Yard Medley Relay, 50 Yard Free, 100 Yard Back Women, and 400 Yard Free Relay.
“I guess after the first race when I led of the relay -- the 200 medley relay [I knew that I was in for a good meet]," Brownell said. "So I led off that, I got a pretty good time for this point of the season. So, I was like okay I can keep going, I can push through.”
Josh Bott is in his first year as head coach at Central. He complemented Brownell on both her work as a student and an athlete.
“Kira does great things at school and in the pool, obviously,” Bott said. "She’s involved in several different things. I know she does choir and she excels academically. At practice, she gives 110 percent every night. She might be one of the hardest workers I’ve gotten to coach so it’s pretty exciting to get to see her in the pool. "
With conference championships now in the rearview mirror, Brownell and Bott are now staring down state competition.
The 4A State Championships begin November 5th at Laramie High School.
