LANDER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

The Lander Chamber of Commerce is putting a different spin on a political event. They’re hosting an Octoberfest themed candidate social that the public can attend in order to meet people running for Wyoming House District 54, Fremont County Commission District 5, Fremont County School District #1, and the Lander City Council.

The event is catered with German-style food, local and regional beers, including a variety from the Lander Brewing Company.

Executive Director of the Lander Chamber of Commerce, Owen Sweeney stated a goal for the event is, “Getting people to engage more with the people who want to represent them in elected office. We’ve had some issues that have come up over the last several months where we basically observed that a lot of people were not aware that discussions were happening, like about our half cent economic development tax, and some of the changes that were being proposed here in Lander.”

The goal for this event is a casual, face to face interaction with the candidates to have the opportunity to learn firsthand who they are, and what they stand for. The event is on October 22nd from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lander Community Center, and is $20 for non-chamber members. Due to social distance requirements, the number of attendees will be limited to 50.
