Prep Athlete of the Week: Jake Rayl
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - East Wide Receiver and Cornerback Jake Rayl is this week’s Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
The senior had a phenomenal game in the T-Bird’s 41-18 dominant win over #1 Central (6-1).
Rayl’s stats were simply superb. He finished with six receptions, 160 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.
The senior had a good season coming into last Friday, with already five touchdowns and and one pick on the year, but he was on another level against the Indians and Rayl could quickly tell he was having a great night.
“[I could tell that night was different] probably after the second touchdown just because Graedyn had hit me on the big play right before that and I was like -- “alright I got a couple going,'” Rayl said. "Then on that play it was so wide open I was just like "wow, you know, maybe this is just one of those games.'”
To no one’s surprise, Rayl’s QB Graedyn Buell also had a great night. The senior under center was 14-24 through the air with 290 yards and five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing).
He too could see Rayl was on fire against the Tribe.
“He caught his second touchdown pass and then, the next drive he caught another bomb and I was like “he’s going to be open all night so lets just keep giving him the ball,'” Buell said.
Buell also added why it was extra special that Rayl had such a great game.
“I think it means a lot. He came from there, he went to McCormick,” Buell said. “He knows all those guys so for him to have a great night I think it means the most.”
Rayl, Buell, and the T-Birds (6-1) next play Kelly Walsh (3-4) on Friday at Okie Blanchard Stadium.
