CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Whether its hiking, fishing, or playing the front 9 holes of a golf course. Turns out golfing places among the safest outdoor sports to play. In March golf courses closed down for what we all presumed to be the foreseeable future, leaving golfers in the Mountain West waiting and debating on when they could get back on on the fairways.

A golfing pro shop says it is seeing an uptick in golfers traffic while implementing social distancing measures. Health experts say golfing is safer than playing basketball or bowling during the pandemic. A local golf course in Cheyenne says, golfers are getting out and playing a round of 18 holes is trending upwards heading into the fall.

"We’ve had a great weather year and I think we’re about three thousand rounds ahead of any year we’ve ever had. It’s been a great year for us, but really busy, but it really hasn’t slowed down drastically. Being honest it slowed a little bit, but we’re still going pretty good.  You have those people that  are afraid of the virus, so they remain socially distant while on the course. A golf course is made for Social distancing so we’ve been lucky that way.”
