CHEYENNE, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) - The City of Laramie is a proud recipient of a Blue Sky Award from Rocky Mountain Power to support the installation of solar panels to serve the Laramie Community Recreation Center and the Ice & Event Center. Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program funds renewable energy projects in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 13th, at the south end of the parking lot at the Ice & Event Center located at 3510 E Garfield Street. The ceremony will begin at 11:00am and will include speakers from the City of Laramie, Rocky Mountain Power and Creative Energies. The public is invited to attend, refreshments will be served.

The City of Laramie would like to remind attendees that face coverings are required, and social distancing is encouraged. Masks will be available at the ceremony.

The solar installation at the Laramie Community Recreation Center and the Ice & Event Center represents the City’s first major step toward carbon neutrality. These facilities were selected for the inaugural solar investment for their impact toward the municipal goal of net neutrality and for their ability to serve as an educational site for the thousands of annual guests visiting both facilities each year.

Once installation is complete, the public can track the impact of the project through on-site monitors, which will help to measure solar gain. Monitoring data and other educational materials will be available at the Laramie Community Recreation Center, the Ice & Event Center, and social media.

For more information on this project, please contact Todd Feezer, Assistant City Manager at tfeezer@cityoflaramie.org or Sarah Reese, Community and Economic Initiatives Coordinator at sreese@cityoflaramie.org.
