Central girls swim & dive win home duals against East and Rock Springs
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne Central’s girls swim & dive team hosted Cheyenne East and Rock Springs for a dual meet, on Saturday, October 3. The Indians beat the T-Birds, 114-64, and the Tigers 100-74. Central won nine out of 12 events on the meet.
Central freshman, Syndi Sawyer, had a strong showing, winning three events on the morning (200-yd Medley Relay- 2:02.31, 200-yd Free- 2:05.89, 200-yd Free Relay-1:49.11). Senior, Hannah Birge also won three events, being a part of the 200-yd Medley Relay and the 200-yd freestyle relay. Individually, Birge won the 50-yd free clocking in at 28:10.
“It’s a team effort, these girls come together as a team and we’re not just counting on two or three girls at the top of the list, we’re counting on everybody," Central head coach, Josh Bott said. "I think that they all understand that and they’re willing to fill those roles. These girls are working hard everyday to meet their goals.”
Freshman, Izzy DeLay, and junior, Kira Brownell each won two events.
“We have some of the fastest swimmers," Brownell said. "Everybody on our team is pretty fast, just having a lot of them and having more than 20 qualifiers helps too.”
Central is scheduled to be back in the pool on Friday, October 9, at Laramie High School.
