Ms. Wheelchair Wyoming’s Reign Extends to 2021
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A Wyoming native won a national pageant. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Ms. Wheelchair organization didn’t hold another pageant as planned in August.
Masha Flinn, Ms. Wheelchair Wyoming, said this organization focuses on empowerment and self advocacy for people with all abilities.
“It’s mostly for women in wheelchairs. There are state competitions all over the country and we have our own platform. Mine is service dogs,” Flinn said.
Normally, she’d be able to travel throughout the state and present her platform at different events. She says she’s had to get more creative.
“Some of them I’m planning on attending more digitally just because it’s easier and more accessible,” Flinn siad.
She’s had her service dog, Sawyer, for about nine years. She trained him herself. He can open doors for her and help calm her down.
“I always talked to people about Sawyer and how I trained him before I became Ms. Wheelchair Wyoming,” Flinn said.
She hopes to start a service dog training business after she completes her social work degree and give students of different ages different life skills.
