CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It is a proud moment for Cheyenne, Wyoming. The cowboy state has ranked 36th in the United States as one of the best places to live.

That’s according to digital publishing platform Money, which selects the top 50 cities in the nation to live. Money Reporter Prachi Bhardwaj says Cheyenne stood out to them this year for a variety of reasons.

“Cheyenne actually stuck out to us in two of our major categories...the median price of a house and the unemployment rate were well below the national average. we also found that Cheyenne and many of the cities in the Midwest region, had a really high pleasantness score. so, in our pleasantness score we look at things like convenience, accessibility to things, weather and environment, and Cheyenne did really really well in all those categories.”

Some other western cities also made the cut including Parker, Colorado which ranked 2nd and Meridian, Idaho which ranked 3rd in the nation.

Bhardwaj says this year they looked at a total of 2,000 U.S. cities and filtered them through 300 data points.

“So, the categories that we looked at most closely or that took up a majority of our score for each city, included the economy. so, that takes into account things like the job market, unemployment rate, job opportunities. also, the housing market, which is supply in demand, it’s the affordability of homes, it’s the age of homes, it’s everything that you can imagine that goes into deciding whether you want to buy a home there or not, and then the cost of living....”
