CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper City Council members decided not to make major changes to this upcoming winter’s snow plowing operations at Tuesday’s work session.

This doesn’t mean the city won’t make small changes.

Council members decided to change some hours at the meeting. The goal is to limit overtime and save money as the city deals with budget shortfalls.

Mayor Steve Freel, Ward III, said, despite the city’s budgetary issues, snow plowing is too important to make major cuts.

“We want to save money but at the same time we still got to keep the city moving,” he said. “We got to be able to get people out of their neighborhoods. We’ve got to keep the streets clean. We got to be able to keep fire and police responding to emergencies. And so this is an integral part of the city’s operation itself.”

Last winter, the city spent about $1.4 million on slow plowing according to city documents.
