Evacuations ordered for Keystone Area
The Mullen Fire has burned 14,000 acres, and is rapidly approaching the Keystone Area. Albany County Emergency Management Agency requested the evacuation of the area to better allow firefighters to focus on mitigation.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Mullen Fire has burned 14,000 acres, and is rapidly approaching the Keystone Area. Albany County Emergency Management Agency requested the evacuation of the area to better allow firefighters to focus on mitigation.
Centennial Valley is under pre-evacuation. Officials say due to strong winds and the movement of the Mullen Fire, Albany County EMA requested the pre-evacuation, this area includes private land along Fox Creek Road, the communities Albany, Centennial, extending North West to the Snowy Range along Highway 130, and all areas west of Highway 11 in the valley.
Officials say the fire is very close to Rob Roy Reservoir. Rain showers hit parts of the fire Saturday night. The fire has crossed the Savage Run Wilderness boundary on the south flank, as well as the 512 road.
Ground crews and helicopters have been successful at checking growth to the west in lighter fuels.
The cause of the fire is unknown, however, the USDA Forest Service believes the fire started by a person. Law Enforcement officers from the Forest Service are requesting public public assistance with the ongoing investigation.
