High School Football Preview: Cheyenne Central gears up to host second ranked Thunder Basin
This makes it back-to-back weeks that the top two ranked 4A teams face each other.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The top two ranked high school football teams in Wyoming get ready to face each other as top seeded Cheyenne Central Indians will host second ranked Thunder Basin Bolts. Last week, Central beat the defending 4A state champs in Sheridan, 20-17, replacing the Broncs as the top seeded program in the state.
“This week the challenge just becomes greater in terms of a Thunder Basin team that went undefeated last year all the way through the regular season, lost in the state title game,” Central head coach, Mike Apodaca said. “They brought back a lot more then most people expected and it’s going to be a heck of a challenge.”
The win also benefited the Bolts, as they moved up to the second spot, making it back-to-back weeks that the top two ranked 4A teams face each other.
“It was a physical game last week and I don’t expect anything less this week and so just coming out with the same mentality,” Senior tight end, Brock Storebo said.
Some players do not mind having the top spot, as they feel the team can thrive under the limelight.
“I like having the target,” Senior tight end, Brady Storebo said. “It’s better to be the target than to be chasing. I don’t feel the pressure.”
The game is set for Friday, September 18, at Riske Field. Kickoff is at 7:00pm MST.
