Casper Police Department sees an increase of stolen wallets
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper Police Department has seen an increase of stolen wallets over the last couple of weeks at local grocery stores.
Rebekah Ladd, the Public Information Officer, said these incidents happen when customers are in the store shopping and not aware of what’s around them.
“Somebody comes up and starts talking to that individual and they look away from their purse or handbag and then somebody else comes up and grabs their wallet or credit card. These people keep shopping and don’t realize it’s stolen,” Ladd said.
She suggests keeping a wallet in a zipper compartment in a handbag or in sight at all times. She adds this crime is a trend in the Casper community and nationwide.
“As a law enforcement agency, we are constantly talking with other agencies around our region and the country and seeing various trends. This one is coming across our computers right now,” Ladd said.
The Casper Police Department’s non-emergency number is (307) 235-8278.
