CASPER, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) - Over the last few days, the Casper-Natrona County Health Department was notified of several positive COVID-19 cases associated with Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Center in Casper. After receiving positive results for two individuals associated with the facility on September 2nd, Natrona County health experts and Wyoming Department of Health leaders notified the facility and determined appropriate actions.

Due to the contagious nature of COVID-19 and nature of the communal, high risk setting, samples were collected from all staff and patients identified as being associated with this facility by CNCHD on September 4th. As a result of this mass testing, an additional ten cases of COVID-19 were identified. The 14 total cases linked with the facility since early August include three patients, nine recently tested staff and two other staff members tested in early to mid August.CNCHD and the Wyoming Department of Health are currently determining appropriate actions for this facility to maintain the health and safety of the facility, staff and the community.

Due to the large number of staff members required to quarantine, individuals who are asymptomatic and currently negative from testing on September 4th will be allowed to work with appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure patients receive continued and required care.CNCHD has followed up with contact tracing, identified, and quarantined anyone outside of the facility and anyone else who may need additional testing as a result of these cases.

Additionally, CNCHD and the Wyoming Department of Health will work with the facility to determine appropriate isolation, additional protocols and logistics for additional testing if needed to protect patients, staff members and our community.COVID-19 is still present in our community and now more than ever it requires each person to do their part.

Things like staying home if you are sick, practicing physical distancing and wearing face coverings as recommended are crucial. If you are experiencing flu like symptoms or have had direct contact with a known positive case, please seek testing through the Casper-Natrona County Health Department by calling 307-577-9892 or the Wyoming Medical Center by calling 307-233-7288
