Rain Chances are Up this Weekend
August 28th, 2020
The final weekend of August is here, and it will feel quite different than the past few we’ve had, especially the last one where heat and smoke filled the Wyoming skies. It will be cooler this time around, and rain chances are up, especially in the southeastern corner of the state. In fact, there will only be a few locations that crack the 90 degree mark, and that will only be Saturday thanks to another cold front that will be coming through on Sunday. Severe weather does not look to be a factor this weekend.
When it comes to rain chances this weekend, there is a slight opportunity for isolated storms Friday afternoon and evening, however most of us will not see any rain today. This works out great for anyone with plans to attend a high school football game as the season kicks off tonight. Temperatures will be in the 70s under mostly clear skies at kickoff for many of the contests. For Saturday however the rain chances ramp up a good bit, especially for places such as Cheyenne, where multiple rounds of rain look to be possible Saturday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will try to rebound to warmer conditions again on Saturday, but a cold front on Sunday will keep them from fully coming back. Severe weather is not anticipated for Saturday’s storms at this time, however the possibility of a few strong wind gusts or even some hail cannot be ruled out.
For Sunday, rain chances will remain, however not as high as on Saturday. A widespread strong breeze event will last through the day on Sunday however as the next cold front comes through. It will be like a fall wind event; Light and High Profile closures on interstates are not expected nor are High Wind Warnings. It will likely be the breeziest days seen by many of us however since late spring. High temperatures on Sunday also look to be in the low to mid 80s before the low 70s start off the new work week on Monday. Monday will also bring similar rain chances to Saturday, however it is expected to be more widespread, bringing the opportunity for drought relief to locations such as Casper and Douglas.
Monday is also the first day of school for Laramie County School District 1, and it may be a good idea to bring a raincoat. Natrona County schools return Wednesday, when clear skies look to dominate the Cowboy State.
