Preview: South HS Volleyball
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Last season, the South High School volleyball team went 4-26. The Bison are going into this season with more experience as nine seniors are returning to the team.
“As a senior you look at it like ‘this is my last year, I don’t know if I’m going to get the opportunity,’” senior right side, Kiley Still said. “I’m just grateful that every day is another chance to keep playing.”
Having played in the 4A East Regional tournament last year, questions still linger if programs will be able to finish the season due to the pandemic.
"We're not going to show up and say 'next week's game,' we're going to show up and compete today on the court and we're going to prepare for what we have," head coach, Cherisa Applehunt said.
However, doubts are not stopping South from going into this season with confidence, as they see the seniority and chemistry they have, as an advantage.
“We all know our strengths and our weaknesses, and we can help each other,” senior middle, Riley VanTassell said. “We’re just stronger if we’re playing in unity.”
The Bison will play in a double header to start their season on Saturday, August 29 against Sheridan, and the defending 4A state champs in Kelly Walsh. First game will be against Kelly Walsh at 1:00pm, Sheridan will be at 6:00pm.
