CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After losing their final eight games last year, the Laramie Plainsmen finished the 2019 football season with a record of 1-8. The team suffered a multitude of injuries near the conclusion of the season, resulting in the reliance for the next man to step up.

“By the end of the season we were dwindling quite a bit as far as what we had, but we had a real good strong youth coming up underneath it,” Plainsmen head coach, Clinton Reed said. “That group now rolling into their senior year and from the last game last year to this point, they’ve been working really hard for this moment.”

The Plainsmen enter this season with roughly 20 seniors. Players say that building chemistry will not be a problem, as many seniors played sports together since elementary school

“We’re all good friends and we know what the other person is going to do on the field,” Plainsmen senior running back/linebacker, Colter Nunn said. “I think this senior class is something special, I guarantee you that.”

Laramie will kick off the season on the road against the defending 4A state champs Sheridan Broncs. In 2019, the Broncs beat the Plainsmen, 55-7.

“It’s quite the challenge,” Reed said. “Sheridan is just a well-established program, a very disciplined program, so it’ll be a big test up front.”

However, Laramie is not looking into the past as they aim to put the state on notice with an upset.

“We have a great opportunity to go out and shock the state Week 0,” Plainsmen senior running back/safety, Isaac Sell said. “I think everyone is understanding the severity of this game and how important it is to us.”

The game is scheduled for Friday, August 28 at Sheridan High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
