Preview: South Bison Football
After finishing 1-8 last year, the Cheyenne South Bison are entering this season as underdogs in class 4A. With a lot of practice and preparation, they are is looking to turn its program around this season.
“I’m really pleased with the way our kids are working and being coach-able and doing what we ask,” bison head coach, Dan Gallas said.
However, the Bison enter this season with fewer players than usual, as some chose to for-go the season due to COVID-19 concerns.
"It's hard on us losing a lot of players but it's that same mentality 'next man up' to keep going with the next person, just trust that they have the same skill set or have a good enough one to continue the team," Bison junior receiver, Adrian Reynolds said.
Even with the challenges they face, South believes they are still capable of making noise as a formidable opponent against any team.
“Everybody is ready to give towards the team,” Bison senior center, Kaidin Mondle said. “If coach ask you to play a position you know everybody is ready to do it for the team. I think the team is looking really good. We look like a very tighten-et group this year.”
The Bison kickoff their 2020 campaign against the Kelly Walsh Trojans, who beat them last season, 47-8.
“Last year they got to us pretty good,” Gallas said. “Our kids are working hard to try and do our best to prevent that from happening.”
South is looking for retribution, entering this matchup with a chip on their shoulder with hopes to start their season 1-0. The game is scheduled for Friday, August 28, at Kelly Walsh High School. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
