Annual “Guns N’ Hoses Blood Drive” helps community and brings friendly competition among first responders
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The annual “Guns N’ Hoses Blood Drive is hosted by Vitalant and is a friendly competition between Casper and Cheyenne first responders participate in.
“Blood donations are needed year round no matter what’s going on, and so these heroes are really stepping up, and encouraging the community to come together to give back at a time of need,” said Vitalant marketing and communications specialist, Brooke Way.
It’s not completely up to the agencies to decide who wins. When you come to donate, you can vote for your favorite agency of Casper Police, Natrona County Sheriff’s Office or Casper Fire-EMS. Though these agencies would really enjoy winning, their members are just happy to help the communities they protect and serve.
“For our officers to go on their own time, you know sneak in while they’re on duty to donate that blood, it just really speaks a lot about who our officers are, that they really are willing to go above and beyond, and kind of take that next step, and really show the community that they’re willing to give of themselves to ensure that those who call Casper home along with us, are well taken care of no matter what,” said Casper Police public information officer, Rebekah Ladd.
“It’s more about getting out in the community and helping the community more because we’re here to just serve. So that’s what’s important to us and it’s just a fun little competition between all of us, and if we can help the public out by doing it then that’s great,” said Casper Fire-EMS Battalion Chief, Devin Garvin.
Way said in a time where blood donation is crucial, it’s great to see the ripple affect this can create.
The blood drive goes until Saturday and Vitalant’s hours in Casper are Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vitalant will announce the winner on its Facebook after the blood drive is completed.
