CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper City Council members are moving forward with a proposal regulating massage therapists.

They decided to move forward on a proposal creating a licensing system. It uses the framework of similar legislation in Laramie County.

It would require background checks, at least 500 hours of education and more.

Council members are taking on the topic after industry professionals asked the city to regulate them.

“When you have the support of the private sector coming forward and asking for something like this, it absolutely makes the dialogue much easier. Generally speaking, the input is readily available,” Casper City Manager Carter Napier said.

The proposal would exempt physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, nurses, hospitals, clinics and convalescent homes.

Council members still must pass the ordinance on three separate readings at regular meetings.
