CASPER, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) - Shortly after 7:00 am Friday morning Casper Police officers responded to the 2200 of South Jefferson to a report of a kidnapping.

Officers say they received information that an adult female was being held at gunpoint against her will by multiple individuals inside of a residence.

Upon arrival officers searched the area and located the residence in which the female was being held.

Officers announced their presence and identified themselves in an attempt to make entry into the residence. Police say officers forced entry into the residence and immediately heard multiple shots fired coming from inside a bedroom, with rounds exiting the bedroom door.

An exchange of gunfire took place and officers made entry into the bedroom.

Upon making entry, officers located multiple individuals. Two individuals sustained gunshots wounds, one of which was deceased on scene. The injured person was transported to the hospital.

No officers were injured during this incident.

At this time, this incident is under investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigations and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Vernoica Sulzen lives about a block away from the scene. She told Wyoming News Now it’s scary something like this could happen so close to her home.

“Just knowing that something like that’s happening just a block away is kind of scary but knowing that our police officers were out there as fast as could be and were making sure that everything was as safe as possible. We have kids running around the block and at least they know they were safe out here plyaing on their scooters and bikes,” Sulzen said.
