Black Hills Energy prepares for 811 day
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Black Hills Energy is preparing for its annual 811 day with the slogan, “Call Before You Dig.” Every year on August 11, Black Hills Energy and the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) look at this day to remind people to dial 811 at least two business days prior to any digging project that will have underground.
“811 day is pretty important,” Lead Tech of BOPU, Chris Martinez said. “We do a lot of excavations and repairing sewer lines and wide lines, getting utilities marked and located, it’s a big part of our job.”
Contractors from the board are sent out on call to make sure that homeowners do not make any mistakes when it comes to digging. Wrongful digging can cause a break in any underground utility lines.
“Safety is a huge part of our culture, we want to make sure these guys go home the same shape they came in, and they don’t hit critical infrastructure,” Safety & Security Supervisor from BOPU, Jason Land said.

“People are going to do more cautiously and safely if they call in and get locates and if they know where those lines are,” Damage Prevention Coordinator for Black Hills Energy, Jesse Henderson.
