Republican U.S. Senate candidates make their pitch to voters at ‘Politics in the Park’
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Natrona County residents got a first hand look Monday at Republicans looking to be their next U.S. Senator.
Candidates vying for the Republican nomination answered a number of questions at Washington Park from moderator Pat Thomas at “Politics in the Park.” The event was co-hosted by the Natrona County Republican Party and Republican Women of Natrona County.
“It gives folks here in town an opportunity to meet the candidates, learn a little bit about what they think about the issues that are impacting us here in Wyoming and around the country and help them as they decide who to vote for,” Thomas said.
Issues discussed ranged from energy policy, to the federal budget and national debt, to their thoughts on the federal government’s role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thomas said forums like these are a chance to learn more about the candidates than what’s seen on their Facebook pages.
“We see things on Facebook, we see ads on TV, but this is a chance to listen to the candidates answer a series of questions that they don’t have in advance and see how they are and we can ask a broader range of questions here so they get to know the candidates better and they feel more comfortable with who they would want to support,” he said.
The primary is Aug. 18 but early voting is already underway.
