Rainey Dell Elementary hopes to provide an interactive learning environment
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Rainey Dell Elementary School is a new private school in Casper. Shelves are lined with books waiting for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade this fall.
Jodi Shelton, the director, said opening up this school is a dream come true for her. All of her experiences will set her future students up for success.
“I’ve taught everything from developmental handicap three-year-olds all the up to ninth grade. And with the Discover program I’ve worked with kids up to twelfth grade,” Shelton said.
During her years working for the Natrona County School District Discovery program, she’s collected tarantulas and other reptiles and hopes to use them for hands-on learning for her future students.
She says she enjoys teaching kids that don’t fit into a traditional classroom setting like kids with ADHD.
Keeping the class small was a goal at the beginning of opening up this school. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, she has wanted to stay between five to ten students.
“I want to be able to make sure the kids are learning the way they need to,” Shelton said.
She cares so much about her past and future students and wants to give them a good education.
“It’s a private school and I have to charge because I’m not independently wealthy. If I was, I’d do it for free because I love to teach,” Shelton said.
Rainey Dell Elementary School starts on September 2.
