RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

A local town’s art event started today, and this year it’s been re-structured to offer more days for customers to enjoy the local art.

Lander Art Center Executive Director Sam Rastatter noted, ”So far we’ve gotten a number of people coming in through the door which is great, and it’s early on a Monday so I have high hopes for the rest of the week.”

Riverfest is typically only a one day event held in Lander City Park with artists travelling to attend from around the state. Usually there are musical performances by local entertainers and several children’s activities.

This year Riverfest is held mostly at Lander Arts Center over the course of the week. Local artists will feature their work at the gallery on Monday August 3rd from 10-6 and will continue that week on Wednesday and Friday with the same hours. Three different craft artists will display and sell their unique pieces each day.

Tuesday and Thursday Lander Art Center will focus on child-friendly activities from 10-6. The annual event rounds out this year with a performance on Saturday by Lander band “The Dystopians” in Lander City Park from 4-6 p.m.

Riverfest founder and former director of the Lander Art Center, Lennie Poitras, is taking in the events in a different way this year. She is featuring her handmade botanically focused jewelry. Although her sales are down to about half of her normal revenue, she is still hopeful for the week and said that there are still ways people can support local artists.

Poitras added that if someone wants to support local art they can, “Become a member, or support the artists, buy something to decorate your home if you can, or yourself in my case.”
