New text scam hitting Laramie residents

All of the personal information the sender is using, including addresses and names of family, can be accessed on public websites,similar to white pages online. If you receive this type of text ignore it and block the number it is coming from.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Laramie Police Department is warning residents of a recent scam that targets local residents. The scam starts with a text message using the receiver’s name and listing members of the receiver’s family.

The text message contains graphic and gruesome pictures of dismembered, beheaded and mutilated corpses and a threat to kill the receiver’s family if they do not pay the sender money. A phone number is provided for the receiver to call to make arrangements for payment.
