CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
After a not so hot start in the beginning of the season the Casper Barons soon found their groove, and came together as a team quickly.
“If you saw them in the beginning, we were a team but we weren’t very close,” said Keaton Westhoff, Casper Barons head coach. “Towards the end I would just say that they all became a true family, they all bonded and they had each other’s backs.”
Not having a lot of practice time due to COVID-19, the Casper Barons faced challenges.
“Our team started off really really poorly, actually our first game, I had to pull us off the field in a forfeit because we fell apart, it was like 20 to 3, and we ran out of pitching in a game,” said Westhoff. “The improvement we made from game one to the last game was insane, it was hard because we only had two weeks or so of practice, and jumped into it but we made extreme leaps and bounds this year as a team.”
Improvement that led them to win the Legion Class ‘C’ State Championship.
“It was really cool especially since this was my first year as a head coach, you can’t really describe the feeling of working with these kids all year then finally seeing them put it together, and what you know they are capable of the whole time and finally see them putting it into action, it felt great, I am really happy, it kind of set my path as a coach that I want to continue to coach because I had so much fun,” said Westhoff.
