RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

A local town with limited medical services just got another option. Since Riverton doesn’t have an urgent care facility, people that can’t get an appointment quickly with their physician, had to choose between driving to a nearby town, or paying emergency room costs. Now residents have the option for a walk-in medical visit at a pharmacy via telehealth.

Local and veteran-owned Pioneer Pharmacy owner Sommer Pedersen said, “I’ve been thinking about wanting to provide more access to healthcare other than just dispensing medications. I want to help our community be healthier.”

Pedersen, who opened Pioneer Pharmacy in Riverton in January, found out about the opportunity to partner with a Wyoming-based telehealth service so her clients can come to the pharmacy for a medical exam without an appointment ahead of time.

Stitches Acute Care Center owner Dr. Dan Surdam said, ”You would talk to a medical provider through kind of a zoom meeting. We would be able to look into your heart and lungs, look into your ears and throat with the digital tools that we utilize.”

Pedersen added, ”If a test is indicated, you can walk in and get a strep or flu test, and you don’t have to pay an office visit. And if your test is positive, you can see our insta-clinic provider on a laptop through two-way video. And our providers are in Cheyenne and Laramie.” In addition to their telehealth services around Wyoming, Stitches Acute Care has brick and mortar buildings in Laramie, Cheyenne, and Wellington, Colorado.

This is another option for people who don’t have insurance, don’t have a primary care provider, or just can’t get an appointment to see their doctor soon enough.

“And this is really the most important thing, is partnering with a local pharmacist so that patients can come in, get their medical needs met, but also speak with a pharmacist. It’s really kind of a one stop shop,” added Surdam.

Pioneer Pharmacy is ready to serve Riverton with walk-in medical visits at their location on Main St. in Riverton.
