Online kindergarten readiness program hoping for more Wyoming students
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Waterford.org is a nationwide kindergarten readiness program and they are hoping to get more kids involved when fall comes around.
Kim Fischer, the Waterford spokesperson, said this program was designed for families in rural areas and they’ve seen success in their first year.
“The families took advantage of it and the children will enter kindergarten this year reading at nearly a first-grade level,” Fischer said.
Waterford is Upstart is an online learning program for four-year-olds. Children going through the program are recommended to do it for 15 minutes five days a week.
She added this program was created in Utah and was made for families in rural areas and they are hoping to gain 400 more students in Wyoming.
A 2019 report said 71.88 percent of the students in their first year were from rural areas.
Fischer adds this program is completely free.
“It’s paid for by a federal grant and for families that need a computer and internet access we provide that too,” Fischer said.
She added the program starts in August and ends in May.
