CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The downtown Casper parking structure will likely have new management.

Casper City Council members decided at Tuesday’s work session to enter into contract talks with Denver-based Republic Parking. The garage is currently managed by the Casper Downtown Development Authority.

“We are now going to a business that deals and develops and their primary function is parking, not a secondary function,” Councilman Steve Cathey, Ward III, said.

The parking structure, which is located south of Second St. between Wolcott and Center Streets, has been a topic of discussion throughout the past year as council members attempt to get more people to use it instead of street parking. Discussions have included extending free parking hours from two to four and facility improvements.
