Kelly Walsh hires new cheer coach
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
Although the status of fall sports is uncertain right now, the Kelly Walsh cheerleaders are preparing for the upcoming season and with a new head coach.
“It was somewhat spontaneous, but it was a goal I always had to come back and coach, and I knew the old coach and the coach before her so there were a lot of people that saw that the new job was posted and had told me about it so I just decided to apply and I am super excited about getting it and being able to come back and continue the legacy of Kelly Walsh cheer,” said Ali Kopp.
Kopp cheered at Kelly Walsh and most recently at the University of Wyoming where she graduated in the Spring.
“I am definitely looking to the old coaches and to continue what they have been doing, I don’t want to reinvent the wheel however I will put my own spin on it just with everything I have learned at Wyoming,” said Kopp. “I feel like I can bring a fresh new take and really like improve the program and make a state winning team hopefully.”
And although there is no word on the status of fall sports, they are still preparing for one.
“We basically have just said that we are anticipating having a season and we are proceeding as normal, I am going to pick my team and we are going to plan practices, get all our stuff ordered get ready, and just take it one day at a time as we get more information about what the fall is going to look like,” said Kopp.
Tryouts were being held this week and a team will be finalized on Wednesday, July 15.
