Cheyenne Little Theatre Players gearing up for 64th annual melodrama
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Cheyenne Little Theatre Players are gearing up for their 64th annual melodrama at the Historic Atlas Theatre in downtown Cheyenne.
The company decided earlier this year to cancel the productions ‘Mamma Mia!,’ ‘God of Carnage’ and ‘The Dead Guy’ due to restrictions placed on them by the COVID-19 outbreak and state public health orders.
However, they feel that now is the right time to set up for the melodrama, titled ‘The Devious Deeds of the Duplicate Dirty Dastards.’
“It’s a Cheyenne tradition,” says managing director Todd Martin. “It’s been happening at the Atlas theatre since the 1970s.”
The first show will begin tomorrow, July 9, at 7 P.M., and the melodrama will run through August 2.
Patrons are required to wear a mask when in the lobby of the building, and sick patrons will be given an exchange ticket and asked to stay at home.
The cancellation of Cheyenne Frontier Days also means that there will be a reduced runtime for the show.
“We’ve lessened our schedule a bit this year just because of there not being Frontier Days,” says Martin. “There will be shows essentially Wednesday through Saturday at 7 o’clock and Sunday’s a 2 o’clock matinee.”
Due to state public health guidelines, tickets will not be available online but can be bought either at the Mary Godfrey Playhouse Box Office or over the phone at (307) 638-6543.
General admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $12 for students (13 years or older) and $10 for children (12 years or younger).
